New Delhi: More than 40,000 children have registered for the new academic course in schools run by the East Delhi Municipal Corporation(EDMC), a senior official said Thursday.
Many of these students have left private schools to join the civic schools run by the authority, Rajiv Kumar, chair of the EDMC Education Committee, said at a press conference here.
For the new academic session, Kumar said, 40,033 students were enrolled in EDMC-run schools. He said that a large number of these students are the ones who left private schools to join the schools run by EDMC.

He said that this indicates an improvement in the quality of education provided in schools run by the civil authority.
“The Eastern Foundation strives to provide quality education for children at the primary level. Only because of this commitment, 40,033 students have been enrolled,” said Kumar.
EDMC consists of two regions: Shahdara (North) and Shahdara (South). According to Rajiv Kumar, 15 schools in each district are being developed as model schools with smart classrooms, computer labs, English language teaching and other facilities.
