The IBPS exam conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection Examination is one of the most important exams that is conducted in India. The national level examination which is conducted every year look outs for young graduates from different stream to be recruited as human resource for posts like Probationary Officers, Clerks and management trainees in the sector. Examination Categories

IBPS Clerk exam – It is the sole responsibility of clerk to assist customers and help them through financial proceedings. Those who aspire to be a clerk also needs to clear both the Prelims and Main exams conducted. Any graduate holder can apply for the position of clerical posts.

RRB Exam – In order to get a position in a Regional Rural Bank(RRB), then one needs to have necessary degree and work experience. Further, the personnel are divided as Group A and B for which they conduct Prelims and Mains examinations. On clearing, one will have to attend the interview and clear as well.

Specialist officer exam – The specialist officer takes care of all the background activities happening in the bank starting from customer service to marketing. Some of the areas they see to include HR, IT and Law. Further they need to be educationally qualified with degrees like MBA, CFA, PG etc and work experience in any of the categories is also required. A specialist officer also requires to take the Prelims, Mains and the interview that follows in order to clear.

Examination Pattern

There is a written examination and an interview in order to clear an IBPS exam. The written exam is further divided into Prelims and Main exams. For the posts of IBPS PO and IBPS clerk, these exams are common. The preliminary exam is divided into three parts and is of one-hour duration:

  1. Reasoning – 35 marks
  2. English – 30 marks
  3. Quantitative Aptitude – 35 marks

The main exams are for around two and a half hours and is a paper for around 200 marks. The subjects covered includes Reasoning, General Knowledge, English/Hindi Languages, Numerical ability, computer knowledge and professional knowledge. The subjects are weighted equally and has negative marking too.

Once the candidate clears these examinations, they can attend the interview which is conducted by the IBPS in various centers across the country.

Preparing for IBPS requires dedication, perseverance and hard work. It requires you to properly plan your time, update yourself and study. There are various subjects in an IBPS examination and all of them needs to be prioritized equally.

GK is not only important in a banking exam but in any competitive exam and even in our day to day life. A general knowledge paper is asked for the main IBPS exams. One need to make sure they are updated with the current issues going on around the country and the world. Topic to concentrate: Current affairs, Banking and Finance, Economics, Awards and Honors, RBI, Indian constitution

  1. Quantitative Aptitude
