How to Make Your Teaching More Effective

Teaching is one of the most Nobel professions in the world. But still researches are going on in order to ascertain what the factors are which creates an effective teacher? It is very important for every teacher to upgrade or update the teaching strategies from time to time.

The main role of a good teacher is to help them grow and understand various concepts. The main motive should be that the students keep learning. According to the latest research there are major three factors which contribute to the effectiveness of a teacher.

These factors are experience, subject matter and knowledge. But these factors are not that easy to achieve. We have come up with some important suggestions which can help you in polishing your skills. Also you can strengthen your teaching strategies with the help of these factors:

Focus on Students – One thing has to be kept in mind always is that every teacher’s main focus should be on their students. It is important to understand what the students expect from you and what has to be done. The major factors like age, interest, gender, experience, etc. should be taken onto consideration before anything else. Make sure you acknowledge the fact that every student is different and has different learning needs. You need to identify the important aspects which help them learn and understand in a better way.

Clear Objectives – Every learning session should have a pre determined objective. Objective can be defined as the outcome that is expected from a particular learning and teaching session. Make sure you have clearly defined objectives. You can categorize the objective into parts like what do you wish you students to learn by the end a session, how can they utilize this knowledge in their future learning and what do you wish to offer to the students. You can make a detailed plan which will help in this entire process.

Expectations – Not only the students have expectations from the teacher. A teacher too can have some expectations from the students. These expectations are completely non materialistic in nature. But the main concern is how the students will come to know what your expectations from them are? Well the answer to this question is quite simple, by discussing your expectations with them. It is advised that along with a detailed teaching planner, you should also discuss your expectations from them. You should ideally start you session with this process. You can explain them what they are supposed to do, how they will do it and what shall be expected out of them finally. This is one of the crucial steps in becoming an effective teacher.

Be Thought Provoking – Being unpredictable is the key to this factor. Let your students think what will be your next question or assignment. This will inculcate a feeling of inquisitiveness among them. This will provoke them to brainstorm before every teaching session. Keep changing your regular teaching dialogues and teaching pattern. Try to improvise and being creative at the same time will help you maintain the newness in the classroom. The students will learn to analyze and start critical thinking as well. According to the latest research results, students learn more in real time situations and simulation exercise. The students will start experiencing the real life situations while undergoing these sessions.

Be interactive – An effective teachings session is the one which is interactive and doesn’t promote an environment of monotony. Make sure you interact with your students on a regular basis. Interaction helps in keeping the momentum of the class high. It is very important to continuously understand the student’s point of view on a certain subject and their conclusions thereafter. This will help you, as a teacher, to mould your teaching session in a manner which is interesting as well as creative. Co-operative interactive session has been very successful in developing effective learning.

Powerful Delivery – A teacher not only teaches the students but also mentors them. He is the one who guides their students for their future career choices and many other important things in life. Make sure you speak in your natural tone and not in a made up tone. Try to interact instead of lecturing the students all the time. Give a break in explaining every point to your students. Try to emphasize and if required repeat the important and critical points. It is also very important to maintain a regular eye contact with your students rather than just speaking all the time. Your body language and gestures should be very positive and friendly rather than offending the students.

Encourages Feedback – Make sure you encourage and ask for students and their parents’ feedback after every session. Student’s feedbacks can be collected on everyday basis. With this exercise you can actually understand the direction in which your teaching is proceeding. You can also ascertain if the pre defined plans and parameters are amicably met through. Try to collect feedback in a constructive manner by feedback forms, online surveys, etc. You should try to make everything interesting and interactive. Along with student’s feedback, teacher’s feedback should also be provided on timely basis. Like the students feedback will give you an idea about your teaching, teacher’s feedback will help the student apprehend their learning skills. You both can give suggestions to improvise your learning and teaching processes. Conduct quizzes and group discussions from time to time in order to get an understanding of the teaching practices.

These were some important factors which can help you in becoming an effective teacher. An effective teacher not only earns a good reputation, but can also encourage the students in attaining their life goals. Behind every successful person be it a businessman, sportsman or an artist, is an effective teacher and encouraging parents. It is rightly said that a teacher is another version of a parent. Considering these important factors on priority can make you an effective teacher which is respected and loved by all the students.
