The educational hockey training in India, an integral part of the FIH Academy, will take place from February to March this year.

New Delhi- The second edition of the Hockey India (HI) Coaching Education will take place from February to March this year, the National Federation said on Sunday.

The program, which is an integral part of the International Hockey Federation (FIH Academy), will see “basic” and “1” level training courses in four regions: south, west, north, and east in February 2020, while the Second level training course will be organized in March.

The simplified educational structure, the higher education pathway, consists of a set of web-based modules and interactive face-to-face courses, backed by a competency-based evaluation process, which helps trainers advance to higher levels.

The pathway is divided into seven levels: Hi-Level ‘Basic’, Hockey India Level ‘1’, Hockey India Level ‘2’, FIH Level 1, FIH Level 2, FIH Level 3 and FIH High Performance. Once a candidate has advanced from HI levels, he/she can enroll in the FIH Academy Level 1 course and so on.

In its first year, this HI initiative attracted an overwhelming response from across the country with more than 300 candidates who submitted applications for each March 2019 and August 2019. The first HI Coaching Education training was launched in March 2019, designed to provide a streamlined educational structure to help develop trainers from the grassroots level to global trainers.

With hundreds of candidates enrolled in Pathway in 2019, the carefully designed program offered certification to candidates, including future young hockey coaches who wish to pursue training as a career, as well as NIS qualified coaches and former international players who have represented India at the highest level in the past.

The “basic” and “1” level training course for the southern region will be organized in Kollam, Kerala from February 11 to 13, for the western region in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh from February 15 to 17, for the northern region in New Delhi from February 19 to 21, and the eastern region in Ranchi, Jharkhand from February 23 to 25, HI said in a statement. After completing the HI “Basic” and “1” level courses in the four regions, the Hockey India Level “2” course will be held in New Delhi from March 27 to 30, which will take place for candidates who have successfully completed the first two sessions.

“After a very successful introduction of HI Coaching Education Pathway in 2019, we are pleased to administer the program again in 2020 to provide a well-designed platform for young coaches across the country,” said Mohd Mushtaque Ahmad, president of HI.

“We are fully committed to the development of sports from grassroots, and through HI Coaching Education Pathway, we want to make sure that these courses help grassroots coaches to be highly trained / international level coaches.
