UGC Scholarship for Undergraduates, College Students: Eligibility, Amount, Other Details

The University Scholarship Commission (UGC) has four scholarship schemes for college and university students: Northeast District Ishaan Uday Special Scholarship (UGC Ishan Uday or UGC NER), PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Child (UGC One Girl Scholarship), PG Scholarship for Undergraduate Rank Holders, PG Scholarship for SC students and ST students who are pursuing professional courses. Applications for these scholarships should be submitted on the National Scholarship Portal: Scholarships.gov.in.

Below are more details about the four UGC scholarships: eligibility, scholarship amount, and other details –

UGC Ishan Uday Scholarship

  • Ishan Uday Scholarship is a special scholarship program for students from Northeast India Region (NER). UGC began to distribute it from the academic year 2014-2015. Now, the applications are hosted on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The UGC Ishan Uday Scholarship aims to provide equal opportunity to Northeast students for graduate study, increase the Gross Enrollment Rate (GER), and focus more on vocational education in the region.
  • Number of scholarships in the program: 10,000.
  • Scholarship Amount: Rs 5,400 per month for general degree courses and Rs 7,800 per month for technical, medical, professional and paramedical courses.
  • Application deadline: November 30.

PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for a single Girl Child

  • The PG Indira Gandhi Single Girl Scholarship was presented by UGC to recognize the value of looking at the small family base and supporting a single girl’s education in graduate courses. Students who do not have a brother or a student with twin daughters or niece can apply for this scholarship program.
  • Number of scholarships: 3,000.
  • Scholarship Amount: Rs 36,200 per year (for two years, which is the full duration of the PG course).
  • Application deadline: November 30.

UGC Scholarship for Holders of Undergraduate Ranks

The PG Undergraduate Scholarship is for students who are pursuing “outstanding performance” graduate courses at the undergraduate level. Professional programs and distance learning programs, however, are not covered by this system. First and second rank holders of a university, who have obtained admission to a regular full-time master’s course at any recognized university, college, private university, independent college or graduate school, can apply for this scholarship.

  • Number of scholarships: 3,000.
  • Amount: Rs 3,100 per month (for two years, which is the duration of the PG course).
  • Application deadline: November 30.

SC postgraduate and ST Scholarship program

The UGC Scholarship Program for SC ,ST Students for Professional Courses aims to provide financial assistance to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates to pursue graduate study in professional courses. Candidates who have obtained admission to the MSc, MA, MCom, MSW, Mass Communication and Journalism programs are not eligible for this scholarship. These courses are treated as non-professional courses.

  • Amount: Rs 7,800 per month for ME and MTech courses and Rs 4,500 per month for other courses
